Part 1. Your required reading for the summer asks that you choose one of the books below and either purchase it or check it out from the library. All of them offer excellent advice for writing a superior college admissions essay. You should be working on this essay during the summer, and you should bring a draft with you, that is minimum 250 words and maximum 650 words long. We’ll work on revising and editing this draft during our first unit of the year:
The books are available on the Amazon and Barnes and Noble websites.
Part 2: Additionally, we are asking that you read for pleasure and information over the summer. A great place to find a book is the list of “23 Books to Read Before College” (https://www.bookbub.com/blog/books-to-read-before-college-editorial-blurbs). We’d like you to choose a book from this list to read over the summer and be prepared to do some writing about it when you return in the fall. If you have a book in mind that’s not on this list, that’s fine, too.
Questions or concerns can be sent to Mrs. Everard over the summer at [email protected] or to Mrs. Brenneck at [email protected].
Have a relaxing break, and come back refreshed and ready to revise your personal narrative essay — one that you’ll be able to use for your college application essay, to apply to the military, or just to have in your back pocket in case you need it in the future!
